What actually slows a Rust server down?

What decides Rust server performance is processor speed. Facepunch states it plainly on their own wiki: the more players you have, the faster your CPU needs to be. Facepunch says nothing about core count, while Unity's own documentation notes that the core runtime is single-threaded and that game logic is called from the main thread. In practice, as map size and base density grow, a 20-core server on a low-frequency CPU can deliver worse tick rate than a 6-core server on a fast one.

Memory is the second bottleneck. Facepunch's own wiki states 12 GB of free RAM and adds that a 6.000 map will use more. In our own measurements a 3.000 map runs comfortably on that 12 GB baseline, while a 4.500 map with dense building pushes past 20 GB. Right after a wipe the world save is small; by the end of the month both the save file and memory usage multiply. Size your plan for the last week of the cycle, not the first day.

The third factor is latency. A Rust server aimed at Turkish players but hosted abroad adds tens of milliseconds for every player, which translates directly into churn in a combat-heavy game. Our servers in the Datacasa Istanbul data centre answer within 5-20 ms from major Turkish cities.

High-frequency processors

Stable tick rate on AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5975WX

Our Premium VDS plans run on Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5975WX processors. Following Facepunch's own advice that a higher player count needs a faster CPU, we deliver faster cores rather than more of them at the same price. The result is a tick rate that holds up with 100 players online.

NVMe SSD storage

Map saves and wipes finish in seconds

Rust writes a world save every five minutes. On spinning disks or shared storage that visibly freezes the server. Every plan uses enterprise-grade NVMe SSDs, so a 4.500 map saves without players noticing and post-wipe map generation takes seconds rather than minutes.

DDoS protection

Stay online through wipe-day attacks

Rust servers get attacked, especially on wipe days and during large raids. Protection is layered: volumetric traffic is absorbed on the 10 Tbps upstream capacity, and the rest is filtered by MikroTik devices, XDP-based filtering and in-house solutions on our own network. It is included with every plan: no add-on, no separate subscription.

Full administrative access

Oxide, Carbon and any plugin you want

You connect with root or administrator rights. Install Oxide (uMod) or Carbon, compile your own plugins, change RustDedicated parameters freely. There is no control-panel restriction, no plugin approval and no slot limit. The whole server is yours, on Linux or Windows Server.

Choosing a plan

Which plan for how many players?

The table assumes a map size between 3.000 and 4.500 with a standard plugin set. For heavily modded servers, pick one tier higher.

Two processor families for your Rust server

Because Rust is sensitive to processor speed we recommend the Premium line. Smaller or test servers run fine on the Economic line.
