What a Metin2 server actually needs

Metin2 server files are traditionally compiled for FreeBSD. Most file packages in circulation expect FreeBSD 11.4, 12.2, 13.0 or 14.0. Run them on the wrong release and you spend your time on build errors and broken quest systems. We can install any of these releases up front, and Ubuntu or Debian images are available if you prefer to build elsewhere.

Second comes the channel architecture. A channel is not a single process: each one is made up of several game processes that share out the map groups, alongside a shared database process. Neither Ymir nor Gameforge publishes anything official about how those processes use cores, so we make no firm architectural claim here. In practice both core count and clock speed matter as the number of channels and processes grows, which is why we recommend the Ryzen Threadripper PRO line.

Third is the database. MySQL/MariaDB fills memory quickly as the player count grows. Up to about 300 concurrent players the game and the database coexist comfortably on one machine; above that you either move up a tier or split the database onto a second server. Both servers can talk over the internal network at no extra traffic cost.

FreeBSD support

Delivered with the release your files expect

FreeBSD 11.4, 12.2, 13.0 and 14.0 are supported. One warning stated plainly: all four of those releases are outside the FreeBSD Project's supported list and no longer receive security updates (11.4 since September 2021, 12.2 since March 2022, 13.0 since August 2022, 14.0 since September 2024). If your files do not force the issue, pick a supported release; if they do, keep the server behind a firewall with only the ports you need open. If you know which release your file package was built against, note it on your order and the server arrives with it installed. Ubuntu and Debian images are ready if you compile on a separate Linux box.

Per-channel performance

Performance that holds across many channels

The clock speed of Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5975WX helps the game processes stay responsive through boss hours and large guild wars. We prefer to give you faster cores rather than more slow ones at the same budget.

DDoS protection

Ready for attacks from rival servers

Metin2 private servers are attacked regularly, especially on launch and event days. The 10 Tbps upstream capacity works together with MikroTik devices, XDP-based filtering and in-house solutions on our own network; your server is not null-routed and your players stay connected. It is included with every plan.

Full access and backups

Root access and your own backup routine

You connect as root and manage the file layout and database however you like. Database backups on NVMe SSD take seconds; follow our blog guide to set up automated backups or ask our support team.

Choosing a plan

Which plan for how many concurrent players?

The table assumes a standard setup with the game and database on the same machine. Choose one tier higher for file packages with heavy quest and custom system load.

Per-channel performance matters most, so we recommend the Premium line. Test and development servers run cost-effectively on the Economic line.
